Letters from a Fallen Empire

The Emperor is dead. The Empire, for the first time in a thousand years, is left without a leader. Ancient monarchies resurface, ancient hostilities rekindle, and the Empire prepares to tear itself to bloody bits. Every eligible subject of the empire is enlisted, to fight in the army of some lord they may never have heard of.

Letters from a Fallen Empire is a solo fantasy RPG where you take the role of an ordinary person drafted into military service to fight and probably die for a crumbling, far away, Empire.

Throughout the game you will draw cards and roll dice to determine the state of your world and your character, and then write letters to loved ones, documenting your adventures. To play you will need two D6, a deck of playing cards, and some way to write your letters.

To get the full experience, I would recommend writing a single letter each time you sit down to play, and letting the game stretch on over the course of a few months, only playing around once a week. I state this a few times through the rules because it is really important: do not read your letters once they are finished. Put them away somewhere safe until you have finished the game and then get them out to read through all in one go!
